The Forzani Group Ltd. (FGL) added Athlete's World to its list of sporting goods banners in November of 2007.

Athletes World, a national retailer of athletic and recreational footwear and apparel, was headquartered in Toronto and operated 138 stores across Canada. The chain's niche has long had a heavy emphasis on "trend casual" apparel - a market which is not currently cornered by FGL's other national sporting goods banners. This niche market will complement FGL's heavy sporting goods-favoured chains, such as Sport Chek, Sport Mart and Coast Mountain Sports.

In October 2007, Athletes World had sought and obtained protection under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act. Forzani's buying power, operational expertise and experience will enable the chain to emerge from creditor protection in spring of 2008, as a smaller but profitable 100-store chain.
